Our President John Smissen and his little friend.
Phew, we are nearly at Christmas Day and I’ve almost finished gift buying. This is a record for me. Maybe I’ll escape the December 24 mad, mind concentrating, dash through the malls this year on Christmas Day minus one!
I hope that you are all almost ready for the Big Day on the 25th and also for the celebration as we welcome in the New Year 2010. It only seems like yesterday when we were worrying about the world as we knew it stopping on January 1 2000. Somehow life has a habit of surprising us and offering up new opportunities we often never anticipated.
The first four months of this seasons Toastmaster year has been a fun one I think. Thanks to my excellent Club Executive Committee we have maintained a vibrant Club and we have added some welcome new members who have taken up the Toastmaster challenge. Thanks also to our more seasoned members who have continued to contribute so much to our continued success. Our meetings continue to be well attended. Our first contest produced some excellent speeches. Our Christmas Party was well attended and enjoyed by all. Imagine what we can achieve in 2010
I’m looking forward to our upcoming competitions in 2010, to the Charter Party, and to many productive meetings as we pursue our objective of Unlocking Our Potential.
Unfortunately we have some members who are currently coping with illness themselves or in their family and we wish them all of them a speedy return to good health.
I hope all of you have a wonderful and merry Christmas and a successful and healthy New Year.
See you all on January 7 at our first meeting of 2010.
Many thanks to Peter West for documenting our 2009 Christmas Party as only he can. I leave you with a few samples of his work. For more be sure to check out his site.
Merry Christmas everyone! See you 2010
Please mark in your diary (or whatever device you use to keep track of important events) Saturday, February 13, 2010. That is the date we will hold our Charter party to celebrate First Oakville Toastmasters 53rd year.
We have reserved the Halton Hall room at the Atrium Conference Centre, 5240 North Service Road, Burlington, as the venue for the party.
We will feature some of our time honoured events and some new ones at the party. The party will start at 6:00 PM and run until 1:00 AM on Valentine’s Day. We will start with a social hour where we get a chance to get acquainted with friends old and new. At 7:00 PM a piper will lead in our head table to commence the short welcoming speeches and for our sumptuous meal to be served. This year we will feature a four course meal. We start with a Tomato Basil soup, followed by a baby Spinach Salad, a choice of Grilled or Baked Salmon Filet, Roast Chicken Ballantine, Roast Sirloin of Beef or a delicious Vegetarian dish. Dessert will be to die for! After we eat and while we digest that excellent food we will be treated to speeches by our four finalists in our Club International Speech Contest.
We will take a short break after all that excitement and recharge our glasses before we are spell bound, entertained, and mystified by a magician who will challenge us with his skill. Then we turn the evening over to our award winning DJ to provide the sights and sounds that prompt us to dance into Valentine’s Day. WOW!
All this for the same price as our party last year. Only $55 a ticket. But wait. If you buy your tickets before December 31 2009 we will take $5 a ticket off. You get the whole party extravaganza for only $50 a ticket. Double WOW!
Place your orders now as tickets are already selling at a brisk rate. We will accept cheques post dated at December 31 2009 if you would like to order your tickets now. Just drop me a note to tell me how many tickets you would like. Make your cheque out to First Oakville Toastmasters. I’ll send you your tickets as soon as I receive your cheque.
I hope that you will attend the party and will bring along their spouse or significant other and as many friends and relatives as you can. This is definitely a must attend party for 2010.
