First Oakville Toastmasters held its preliminary round of the club-level International Speech Contest and we have our four winners. (In photo from left to right: John Boateng, chief judge Deborah Bartucci, Rhiannon Filip, Mark Molder, Aman Kapur and contest chair Area Director Adrian Scott.)
In no order the winners are Mark Molder (last year’s club-level winner), John Boateng, Aman Kapur and newcomer Rhiannon Filip. These four will now go on compete at our Feb. 20 Charter Party. (Tickets are still available for this wonderful night of dinner, dancing and the International Speech contest.)
Long-time members of the club commented on the high level of competition with all eight contestants wowing the audience with some of the best speaking performances we’ve heard and seen all year.
Newcomers to the contest Allan Osborne, Zulma Garcia and Rosa Rodriguez plus perennial favourite John Smissen were outstanding and anyone of them could have placed in the top four if one of our winners had left an opening (which they didn’t).
Thus begins our club’s journey towards Toastmaster International’s convention in August when the world championship of public speaking will take place.
